How old do I have to be?
Contact the local umpire-in-chief/assignor for your area. If you don’t know who that is, connect with your province’s Supervisor of Umpires, who will point you in the right direction.
What training will I receive?
You will attend a Level 1 umpires clinic. The format varies slightly between provinces, but the clinic is typically a six hour classroom and on-field training program. You will learn the basics of umpiring, including essential rules, 2-umpire positioning techniques, umpire signals and mechanics. Starting in 2024, online training alternatives and onfield learning are being implemented.

What Equipment do I need to start?
Baseball Saskatoon and the SDBUA have combined to make the equipment needed to start easy. We supply Mask, chest protector and shin pads at all diamonds 15U and under as well as first year umpires get a starter kit(ball bag, plate brush, indicator) and Hat supplied to them at the in person field camps.
